Harvest Saturday!?

Daphne's Dandelions hosts the Harvest Monday blog hop.  Since we left for vacation on Saturday, the photos below are really harvest Saturday for us!  Some of what we picked is the same old same old we have been getting for about a month.  But we also have some new stuff coming in.

We picked our second batch of Lazy Wife Beans.  We have now tried the young ones as green beans and the mature ones as shellies.  I definitely prefer them as shellies!

More black beauty and white lightning eggplant!

Still pulling way too much squash out of the garden.  Next year we are only planting one type!  You can see some hid out until they got a little large.

White scallop squash.
Costata Romanesco Zucchini

We are now getting a nice haul of anaheim and jalapeno peppers, even though it seems I have bacterial spot for the first time.  The jalapenos are shrugging it off.  The anaheims are clearly suffering but still producing.  The red marconi and bell peppers are getting hit pretty hard.

This is one day's worth of cucumbers.  I really need to get over my fear of canning and learn to put up pickles!

Salt and pepper cucumbers

We also finally got our first tomatoes.  My fear is that they will all ripen during the next two weeks when we are on vacation.

First tomatoes!

We also got our first tomatillos!

    1. The color also makes it easy to see on the vine, which means I miss less when I am picking!

    1. Great question. I have no idea. If the plants are still up when I get back I am going to try zucchini relish.

  3. Wonderful harvest! How do get so much squash?? I'm ~20 miles south of you and have lost count how many squash plants I've lost to vine borers.

    1. I have no idea. This is a very unusual squash harvest for us. I grow organically and my method of dealing with SVB is to replace the plants when they go down. I have been waiting and waiting for the telltale droop but nothing yet. I know that SVB has found them. I have seen an adult flying around. I have to say I won't be sorry when they go down this year.

  5. Patty pan squash and zucchini are both such productive plants. Can be hard to keep up with them when they are at their height of production - but it is a nice challenge to have. :D

  6. Look at all those gorgeous vegetables! My mind just exploded.

A gardening friend is breading and freezing her squash so they're ready for frying in the winter.
