What Am I Growing?

For the past 8 years my edible gardening was limited to growing vegetables in an ever expanding plot in the back yard and herbs in a smaller plot close to the house.  Last year (2011) I decided to shake things up a bit.  We added some fruit trees in the front and back yard, some berry bushes that serve as hedges, and I have experimented with moving veggies out of the garden and tucking them here and there in the yard.


Here is a list of some of the stuff we are currently growing in the 35' x 35' veggie garden:
  • Peas (Thomas Laxton)
  • Red Russian Kale
  • Chard (Bright Yellow)
  • Red Pac Choi
  • Lettuce (Red Sails, Buttercrunch, Bionda Lentiissima a Montare, Red Salad Bowl, Prize Head)
  • Broccoli (Marathon)
  • Tat Soi Asian Greens
  • Spinach (Bloomsdale)

We also have some fruit trees and berry bushes scattered around our yard.
  • Blackberries: (Navajo and Natchez)
  • Blueberries (Chandler, Summit, Legacy)
  • Pear (Seckel)
  • Persimmon (Fuyu)
  • Fig (Violette de Bordeaux)
  • Apple (William's Favorite, Virginia Beauty)

Last but not least, the herb garden:
  • German Thyme
  • Scallions
  • Sage
  • Rosemary
Summer 2012 Garden
  • Beans (Lazy Wife, Rattlesnake)
  • Eggplant (Black Beauty, White Lightening, Lista de Gandia)
  • Patty Pan Squash (White Scallop)
  • Peppers (Anaheim, King Arthur Bells, Chichimeca JalapeƱos, Red Marconi)
  • Pink Eye Purple Hull Peas
  • Sweet Potatoes (Georgia Jets, Nancy Hall, O'Henry)
